What you shouldn’t do

Don’t reply to spam - often the “unsubscribe by...” just leads to your email address being confirmed as “live” and it ends up on a list of email addresses for sale to other spammers.

Don’t display your email address on your web site. There are programmes trawling the web and harvesting email addresses on web pages.

Use an alias which can be changed regularly without causing disruption or better still ask your web designer to provide a permanent solution.

What you should do

Install spam filtering software. There are free versions and paid for product available. We can help you to choose one which suits you and install and set it up for you.

Do have your mail server checked regularly for vulnerablities to prevent major problems with your own email.

Do use email alias’ rather than accept all email at your domain name.
